  14. Lately, someone who calls himself "BOB(c)" has started the dubious
  15. job of "answering" news.newusers.questions with adding follow-ups
  16. to some "joke" groups (kibology, happynet). Obviously, his aim is
  17. to make new users aware of one of the dark sides of the not-censored
  18. Usenet system.

  20. Please, all new users, do not get fooled by practical jokes like this!

  22.    Do not believe everything you read on the net. Before you react to a
  23.    posting, ask yourself whether it might have been meant humourous,
  24.    satirical, or sarcastic.

  26.    If someone suggest to use the Unix command "rm -rf *", don't do it, it
  27.    would delete all your files.

  29.    If someone asks the millions of Usenet members to mail something to a
  30.    certain mail address, don't do it, it would overflow that person's
  31.    computer ("mail bomb").

  33.    Do not answer articles that contain alt.test in the followups-to
  34.    header line.

  36.    Do not put subjects with a * (wildcard) into your kill file.

  38.    Do not believe that you can ftp new files from the host 127.0.0.1,
  39.    which is your own computer.

  41.    Do not answer to chain letters (pyramid schemes). Do not believe that
  42.    David Rhodes could make money fast. Do not believe that Criag Shergold
  43.    is still in hospital. Do not use Canter and Siegel's "spamming" method
  44.    of advertising. Enjoy, but do not get confused by the jokes posted by
  45.    Mr. Kibo or Mr. BOB(c).

  47.    Never try any practical jokes yourself! Experienced net users know how
  48.    to detect any forgeries and how to make sure that offenders lose their
  49.    computer connections.
